János Rainer M.: The Agent.
Fragments on State Security and Middle Class Values in Kádárist Hungary

Issue nr. 22 of TSEECS (Norwegian University of Science and Technology Program on East European Culture and Societies, Trondheim) has been published! The issue carries János M. Rainer's study, The Agent. Fragments on State Security and Middle Class Values in Kádárist Hungary. This is an exemplary piece of scholarly handicraft that exploits the files of the political police of the Kádár era to generate fascinating and most valuable insight into the social and cultural history of socialist Hungary's  Bildungsbürgertum in the 1960s and 1970s. Dr. Rainer is Director of the 1956 Isntitute, one of Hungary's leading research institution in the study of contemporary history.
